“FROM
THE GROUND UP”
Wood mouldings for use in furniture and as an architectural
element have been an important part of American history since
colonial times. In those days, mouldings were most often produced
on site by joiners using specially shaped hand planes. The
process involved making multiple passes on the same board
to achieve the proper depth of cut and profile. This took
hours of hard work to produce small amounts of product. Fortunately,
many of the original designs and profiles have been retained
and are still in use today.
